FuelEU Maritime Timeline

FuelEU Maritime is an EU regulation aimed at reducing the greenhouse gas intensity of ships and promoting the use of sustainable fuels.

Effective from January 1, 2025, the regulation generally covers commercial vessels of 5,000 GT and above. Annual compliance performance is calculated, resulting in a positive (surplus) or negative (deficit) Compliance Balance.

Monitoring and Reporting

Ships’ fuel consumption, energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions are monitored and recorded throughout the year.

FuelEU Report Submission

FuelEU data from the previous reporting period is submitted to the verifier.

Verification

The reported data is reviewed by the verifier, and the verified Compliance Balance is recorded in the FuelEU Database.
